Whle browsing around Yout Tube with my wife recently looking for a nice Christian documentary to enjoy, we stumbled into this one. It looked interesting and since we are big fans of documentaries and offcourse our love for Jesus Christ, that seemed like a nice watch to enjoy.

Little did we know we were wrong. While watching this so called “documentary” Bible Secrets Revealed from the History Channel, we started to notice the narrative of the people in the videos, these so called scholars who started to make comments about the Gospel, New and Old Testament that didn’t really make sense in truth. The reason I say this is because we have been recently very heavily involved in studying Christian Apologetics so we know by now, along with our deep faith, what is true and what is not. So I started to dig into these so called scholars that were in this documentary and there background and what I found was pretty shocking.

In recent years, TV networks like the History Channel and platforms like YouTube have released countless “documentaries” and interviews featuring individuals presented as Bible scholars, professors of religious studies, or experts in early Christianity. These productions often carry intriguing titles like “Bible Secrets Revealed,” “Hidden Messages of the Holy Book,” (which was the title of this documentary) or “The Real Story of Jesus.”

At first glance, they may seem educational or insightful, but a closer look reveals a troubling pattern: these shows are not made to build faith — they are crafted to dismantle it.

The Scholars Behind the Curtain

Figures like Bart Ehrman (agnostic), Candida Moss, Dale Martin, and Robert Cargill appear frequently in these productions. This image below from his Youtube channel speaks for itself to expose who really this “scholar” is :

As you can see in this image, it’s crystal clear where he stands — the video is literally titled “Bible Scholar Dr. Robert Cargill Leaves Christianity” on his channel MythVision Podcast. That says it all. And just looking at the branding and tone of the channel, it’s evident that this is not a ministry built on truth, but a platform dedicated to deconstructing and dismantling biblical faith.

So let me get this straight, this is the same “professor” in this documentary? Unfortunately yes!

So I asked myself, why would the History Channel (secular tv) be doing an documentary with these types of testimonies?

Let’s be real — this is not scholarship rooted in reverence for God’s Word, but academia wrapped in skepticism. These kinds of presentations aren’t made to build faith, but to destroy it — they are subtle traps for the undiscerning, aimed especially at those who are questioning or struggling. It’s heartbreaking, because many viewers take these voices as “authoritative” simply because of their academic titles.

Colossians 2:8 (KJV) — “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

Please, brothers and sisters — don’t be fooled! Just because someone has a PhD or teaches religious studies does not mean they speak the truth of God. Many of these so-called scholars deny core doctrines of the faith, dismiss the resurrection, and subtly lead people into spiritual confusion.

We need to stand firm on the Word of God and equip ourselves with solid apologetics from defenders of the faith like Frank Turek, Lee Strobel, and J. Warner Wallace. Don’t give ear to platforms that glorify deconversion and call it enlightenment.

These are the days we were warned about — stay alert, stay grounded, and cling to Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).

Though academically trained, their worldview is secular, and their statements often deny core biblical truths, including:

• The eyewitness authorship of the New Testament.
• The resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• The miraculous and divine nature of Scripture.
• The reliability of the Gospels.

In fact, Robert Cargill is even featured in a video titled “Bible Scholar Dr. Robert Cargill Leaves Christianity” — a clear sign of his position. These individuals use their credentials to appear as authoritative, while subtly (or blatantly) promoting skepticism, doubt, and disbelief in the inspired Word of God.

2 Corinthians 11:14–15 (KJV) — “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness…”

The Real Goal: Undermining Faith

These shows and interviews are not neutral. They are often strategically edited and produced to plant doubt in viewers’ minds, especially targeting young believers, the curious, and the spiritually vulnerable. They use academic language to disguise spiritual deception.

When they say, “The Bible is a product of political power,” or “Jesus never claimed to be divine,” or “None of the Gospel writers knew Jesus personally,” — they are not presenting new insights; they are echoing the voice of the serpent from Genesis: “Yea, hath God said…?” (Genesis 3:1).

Why This Matters

We are in a spiritual war. These aren’t just intellectual disagreements — they are attacks on the foundation of our faith.

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) — “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

The enemy knows he cannot destroy God’s Word, so he tries to discredit it through doubt, distortion, and deception. These so-called experts may not even realize they’re being used — but that makes their influence even more dangerous.

What Should Christians Do?

1. Stay Rooted in the Word of God Don’t get your theology from Netflix or the History Channel. Let Scripture interpret Scripture.
2. Seek Out Solid Apologetics Defenders of the faith like Frank Turek, Lee Strobel, J. Warner Wallace, and C.S. Lewis offer fact-based, rational, and spiritual proofs for the truth of Christianity.
3. Be Discerning Just because someone has a Ph.D. doesn’t mean they speak truth. Use biblical discernment.
4. Pray for Wisdom and Boldness Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you into truth (John 16:13) and to give you courage to stand when others compromise.
5. Encourage Others to Seek Truth, Not Trends If someone is doubting or being misled, lovingly direct them to truth, not trendy opinions.

1 John 4:1 (KJV) — “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

 

Final Thoughts: Don’t Be Deceived

The enemy is clever, but not creative. He uses the same old tactics: twist God’s Word, sow doubt, destroy faith. These documentaries are not “harmless entertainment” — they are spiritual traps designed to erode trust in the Bible and Jesus Christ.

But Jesus warned us this would happen:

Matthew 24:24 (KJV) — “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

Stand firm, Christian. The truth is not hidden — it’s revealed in God’s Word.
